20 dogs + skidoo Lake Laberge 2.jpg (26855 bytes)

Due to lack of snow I train the dogs pulling my ski-doo. While this is not as enjoyable
as riding the sled it gives me absolute control (I can get off anytime to take pictures!)

pilons.jpg (22768 bytes)

The pilons. These wooden posts are about 100 years old and were installed along the
Yukon River near the mouth into Lake Laberge by the steamboat line
British Yukon Naviagtion Company. The pilons were interwooven (is this a word?)
with willows to form a wall which kept the main channel of the Yukon narrow
and deep enough for the steamers.
My dog trail goes right by this landmark.

Another Yukon "landmark": The tire.

dropping at Kluane Lake.jpg (22571 bytes)

On the road to the Sheep Mountain race. Here I "drop" dogs on the shore of Kluane Lake.
On the road I let the dogs out of their box every two to three hours to stretch and pee.
Behind my truck is Didier Moggia's convoy.

Sheep Mountain Lodge.jpg (31790 bytes)

During the SML 150 race I forgot my camera in my truck, so there are no photos.
Here a picture of the Sheep Mountain Lodge, the location of the start and finish.

calling home in Blizzard.jpg (41341 bytes)

Calling home in a blizzard. Alaskan payphones are quite basic and always located in windy locations.
Calls are limited to a couple of minutes otherwise the handset will freeze to your ear!

Ali, Takotna & Blaze in Dog box.jpg (56505 bytes)

Ali, Takotna (top row) and Blaze enjoy the straw in their dog boxes after the SML 150.
